Semana i 11日間の旅 (English down below⬇️⬇️)
10月28日から11月1日までは留学先の大学のSemana iという特別授業週間だった。僕は10月23日から11月2日までの11日間ポルトガル人のマルセロとドイツ人のスタスとメキシコ南部・オアハカ州に旅行してきた。交換留学生はこの一週間の間授業がなく、メキシコ国内を自由に旅行できる代わりに、旅行のビデオを作成しなければならない。交換留学生は成績が自分の大学の成績に換算されない人が多く（まあ僕もそうだが）、成績を気にせずSemana iが終わった次の週になってもまだ旅行してる人もいる。いや、おまえらどんだけ旅行好きなんや！勉強しに来たんやないのか、とツッコミたくなる。
初サーフィン
飛行機代が他の日にちは恐ろしく高く、僕は授業を丸々3日間切ってSemana iが始める前の週の水曜日の朝、空路でマルセロとオアハカ州Puerto Escondidoに向かった。ここはいい波が立つ事で有名な太平洋沿いの町で、僕らは熱気がムンムンしている空港に降り立つとすぐに乗合タクシーに乗り込み、海に向かった。水着に着替えてリラックスしてると、メキシコ人のお兄さんが僕にサーフレッスンを勧めてきた。値段は2時間で500ペソ（3300円程度）。留学生の僕には痛い出費だが、今回の旅で僕は絶対にサーフィンだけはやると決めていたのでやることにした。最初に砂浜で、寝ている状態からボードの上に立つまでの動いを習い、ひたすら反復練習をする、その後20分くらいアドバイスを聞いたのち、いざ海へ。僕らの行ったPlaya Carrizalilloは入江になっていて、波の高さも波の持ち時間(?)もとても良いコンディションだった。波を待ち先生に立て！と言われるがままにボードの上に立った。するとボードが水の上をスイスイ進んでいき、水の上に立っているようでとても気持ち良かった。その後はずっと波のタイミングをつかみ数回手で漕いでから立ちあがる動きの反復をしていた。しかし、少したつと前日寝ていなかったせいと、何も食べていなかったせいで、海酔いし始めた。先生にお前顔色悪いから次の波で最後なって言われた時は正直吐きそうだった。こうして僕の初サーフィンは終わった。
その後にホステルを探した。マルセロはPuerto EscondidoにあるSelinaというホステルで無料宿泊することが決まっていた。なぜならSelinaは世界各国に店舗があり、以前マルセロはリスボンのSelinaで働いていたからだ。僕がドミトリーの値段を調べるとまさかの250ペソ。日本なら全然払うけど、初日からこの値段、しかもホステルはきつい。（ちなみに旅行を通して一番高かった宿泊先はオアハカで死者の日パレードが行われていたせいでどこも空いてなく仕方なく泊まった200ペソのボロいホテルだった。）そこで僕は町中を歩きホステルを探すことにした。結局ビーチ沿いで一番安かった一泊100ペソのホステルにした。この町には二泊したが、サーフィン以外には特にやることがなくて、町も中途半端に小さいし、僕はこの町を好きになれなかった。
マズンテ
3日目にPuerto Escondidoからバスで1時間のMazunteに移動した。ここは僕が今回の旅行で一番気に入った場所だった。物価が安く（例えばホステル80ペソ）、夕日を見られる最高のスポット(Punta Cometa)があって、海岸のバーで飲み物を頼んで寝転がりながら一日中ゆったりできるし、最高だった。でも3日目の夜にマルセロがゲイ版のTinder、Grinderでアルゼンチン人ゴンサロと出会い、ゲイバーに行き彼らがキスしている中周りのゲイの方々にもジロジロ見られるし、すごく居心地が悪かった。その日はマルセロと2人でホテルに泊まる予定だったが、マルセロは何時になっても帰ってこなかった。そして僕らはゴンサロと一緒にその後4日間も旅をする。笑
キノコ村
9日目にオアハカの街から3時間のところにあるSan Jose del Pacificoという、標高2600mの自然が豊かな小さな村に行った。ここはマジックマッシュルームで有名な村で、ホステルの受付でそのキノコを販売しているとのこと。僕はスタスと7つのキノコがセットになったfamilyを買い、シェアした。キノコは実物がスープになって出された。飲んでから1時間後、症状が現れ始めた。この村は標高が高いので寒かったのだが、僕は寒さに敏感になり、その影響かネガティヴな思考になった。いわゆるバッドトリップだ。キノコを食べるとyou feel more connected to natureって言われたけど、全然楽しめなかった。トリップ中に日暮れちゃったし。でもうまくいけばいい気分になれるらしく、実際スタスは幸せそうな顔をしていた。僕が落ち込んでるとスタスはASAP ROCKY-LSDのミュージックビデオを見せてくれた。後から見返すと変だな、としか思わないがあの時はすごいかっこいい動画だな、と思っていた。
死者の日
ディズニーのリメンバーミーのモデルになったオアハカで11月1日と2日の2日間を過ごした。死者の日はメキシコ版お盆で、亡くなった人の魂を楽しく祝おうというお祭りだ。オアハカの歴史地区は世界遺産に登録されている美しい街並みで、この日はパレードやメイクアップをした人々が街を練り歩き、メインストリートを歩いているだけでも楽しかった。歩き始めて数分後、同じ大学に通う交換留学生に出くわし、彼らと一緒にオアハカで有名なお墓(Panteon General)に行った。そこではコンサートが行われていたり、マリーゴールドやひまわり、お供え物でデコレーションされたお墓を見ることができた。その後みんな（ヨーロッパ人）がビール飲みてえ！と行ったのでバーに行くことに。その後しっかりクラブまで行った笑。個人的な感想としては、期待してたよりもパレードの規模や街の盛り上がり方がイマイチだった。マルセロは僕たちがキノコ村に行っている間にオアハカ周辺の小さな村でのお祝いを見に行っていたのだが、そっちの方がオアハカの街よりauthenticで盛り上がってたぜ！って言ってた。後々調べてみると死者の日の発祥の地はミチョアカン州のパツクアロ湖で、そっちの方が毎年盛大にお祝いするらしい。でも、オアハカ市内でも十分盛り上がってたし、それ以外にも先住民のセラピー・テメスカル、世界遺産モンテアルバン、インスタ映えするヒエルベデアグア、トゥーレの木もあるのでメキシコに来たらオアハカは絶対行くべき。
この旅にでる前は11日間ってS.A.Lのスタツア並みじゃん長えー‼︎って感じてたけど海岸沿いでゆったりしてたらすぐ時間たっちゃってオアハカの観光地全然回れなかった。ヨーロッパ人は旅行の予定を詰め詰めにするのを嫌う。マルセロは帰りの便がオアハカからじゃなかったら俺ずっと海沿いでゆっくりしてたわ、って言ってたくらいだったし、旅行先で出会う人と話したり一緒に時間を過ごして楽しむ旅行の仕方は僕にとってとても新鮮だった。
Semana i
From October 28th to November 1st was a special class week called Semana i at Tecnologico de Monterrey Campus Guadalajara, where I study. (Tec) In this period, the exchange students do not have any class to attend and we can travel all around Mexico, instead, we have to make a 5-10minute video at the end of the week. I traveled with Marcelo and Stas for 11 days to the South-Eastern state of Oaxaca. Let’s say that if you skip a week after the end of Semana i, you can travel for a full half-month in the middle of the semester.
Surfin
I flew on Wednesday morning before Semana i to the Oaxacan Coast of Puerto Escondido. Puerto Escondido is known as the third best place in the world for surfing. Right after we got off the airplane, we decide to take a taxi to the nearest beach. Just as we changed and started chilling by the beach, there was a tan Mexican guy coming to me and he offered me a surf lesson for 500 pesos/2hours. For an exchange student, this is a big expenditure but I had decided before that I will learn to surf during this trip. First, I learned the movement on the board how to stand. After repeating the movement for 20 mixtures, I finally went into the sea. Playa Carrizalillo was a cove and I could tell that they had a good condition of waves. In the sea, I waited and when the teacher told me to stand, I stood just as he said. Then, the board was moving on the white wave to the beach and it was a wonderful feeling that I felt like I was standing on water. Later, I was practicing over and over again on how to catch the wave without the teacher’s help. However, because I had not slept well the night before nor eaten anything in the morning, I felt sick by the waves. When the teacher told me that the lesson was over, I was about to throw up.
Later that day, I looked for a hostel to stay because Marcelo had a hostel to stay. His hostel was under the same name which he worked in Portugal. When I searched for the price of a dormitory, it was 250 pesos! In fact, the most expensive accommodation I had during this trip was in Oaxaca City with 200 pesos… In the end, I just decided to stay at the cheapest hostel by the beach, which was only 100 pesos. I stayed in Puerto Escondido for 2 nights, but there are not so many things to do in this town other than surfing and I honestly did not like this town.
Mazunte
On the 3rd day, we moved from Puerto Escondido to a small village of Mazunte. On this trip, I liked this place the most because prices were cheap (for example my hostel was 80 pesos a night), a beautiful point to enjoy the sunset, and we could order a drink to chill by the quiet beach as much as we want. However, on the 3rd night, Marcelo did not come home because he met this guy through Grinder and he left me alone! We went to a gay bar and it was a cool experience, I guess. The positive thing was that this Argentinian guy Gonzalo spoke in Spanish to me the whole time so I got to practice Spanish and also he was super nice.
Mushroom village
On the 9th day, we went to a village called San Jose del Pacifico, surrounded by the Oaxacan mountains. This village is famous for the production of mushrooms and we could buy them at the reception of the hostel. Stas and I shared the “family”. It was served in a soup and after one hour, the effect was coming. This village is at 2600m altitude so it was very cold and I fell into a bad trip because I did not have many clothes and I felt so cold. Someone told me that when you eat mushrooms, “you feel more connected to nature”, but I did not enjoy it at all. On the other hand, Stas was having a good time. When I felt sad, Stas showed me the music video of LSD by ASAP ROCKY. When I look back, I think it’s a bit weird but I felt that is a dope video I first saw it.
The Day of the Dead
We spent the last two days in Oaxaca city. Unlike the Obon in Japan, the Mexican Day of the Dead is a fun celebration of the dead soul. Oaxaca City is registered as World Heritage by UNESCO and on the days of the celebration, many people painted their faces and walked around the city and watch the parades. After a few minutes of walking, we ran into our colleague exchange students from Tec and we went together to Pantheon General, a famous cemetery in Oaxaca City. In the cemetery, there was a concert and altars decorated with flowers and offerings. Later, we went to a bar and eventually ended up in a nightclub. From my perspective, I expected more celebrations in Oaxaca City. While we were in the mushroom village, Marcelo went to a small town nearby Oaxaca to see the celebration and it seemed like there were more authentic and cooler celebration over there. Later I found out that the actual origin of the Day of the Dead is near Lake Patzcuaro, and there is a bigger celebration going on there. Nevertheless, Oaxaca City is a recommendation for visiting during the Day of the Dead and other than that, there is temescal therapy of the indigenous, Monte Alban, Hierve el Agua, Arbol de Tule, and more to see!
Before this trip, I thought that 11 days is such a long time to travel but as I chilled on the coast, the time past so quickly and in the end, we couldn’t go to many sightseeing places in Oaxaca. Unlike us, I think that European people do not like to squish schedules when they are traveling. Also, I liked how we met and talked to people along the way as we traveled. (Mexican, Spanish, British, American, French, German, Philipino, Swedish, Argentinian, Canadian, Israeli, etc) I really enjoyed this trip overall.
